Premium Reimbursement

This article applies to you if you have a Via Benefits reimbursement account (sometimes known as a Health Reimbursement Arrangement).*

You can be reimbursed for your monthly plan premiums or Medicare Part B premiums in one of three ways: Automatic Premium Reimbursement, Recurring Premium Reimbursement, or One-Time reimbursement.

Automatic Premium Reimbursement

Automatic Premium Reimbursement, when available, is the preferred method for premium reimbursement. It’s easy to turn on and no paperwork is required. You can manage your Automatic Premium Reimbursement settings on the website or by calling us to speak with a Via Benefits representative. You must be enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan or a Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) policy through Via Benefits Insurance Services to be eligible for Part B Automatic Premium Reimbursement.

Recurring Premium Reimbursement

You may be able to use Recurring Premium Reimbursement if Automatic Premium Reimbursement isn't available for your selected plan. If your former employer allows it, Recurring Premium Reimbursement can be established for eligible premiums, paid to any insurance carrier, as well as Medicare Part B premiums.

Don’t submit a reimbursement request for plans with active Automatic Premium Reimbursement.

Documentation Requirements

Your reimbursement request must be submitted with third-party documents that include:

  • Name of Insured

  • Carrier (e.g., Humana)

  • Premium Type (e.g., medical, Medicare)

  • Coverage Period (e.g., 01/01/2021 - 12/31/2021)

  • Monthly Amount (e.g., $200)

The annual policy statement or coupon book, sent to you by your insurance carrier, includes this information.

One-Time Reimbursement

One-Time reimbursement requests for premium expenses should be used in limited situations when:

  • You paid in advance for future premiums, like:

    • A Medicare Part B quarterly premium

    • A medical insurance annual premium

  • You want to be reimbursed for premiums paid under COBRA

Your Reimbursement Guide provides more details on reimbursable expenses.

Submit your reimbursement requests on the Via Benefits Accounts mobile app or on the website. They're the fastest and most secure ways to have your reimbursements processed. Using a Reimbursement Request Form may take as much as 10 days longer for us to receive and process your request.
